The VDSA has been in existence since the early 80's, and incorporated with the Province of Nova Scotia's Registry of Joint Stock in May 1996 as a registered Association.

The Valley District is one of nine regions in the Province of Nova Scotia operating under the direction of Soccer Nova Scotia. The umbrella organization of VDSA includes seventeen community member soccer clubs from four counties, Annapolis, Digby, Kings and West Hants.

Valley District Soccer supports under the same umbrella organization a Tier 1 program for highly skilled youth selected from the above municipalities to represent the Valley District and includes six boys and girls teams that travel throughout the province. Age categories include two Under 14, two Under 16 and two Under 18 teams. Based on dues paid there are a total of 4,971 registered players in VDSA.
