Two (2) Capital Improvements for 2010

The Digby and Area Soccer Association (DASA) has initiated a plan with the Tri-County Regional School Board to improve the playing fields at Digby Regional High School and Digby Elementary School to Class B or better surfaces. These fields have suffered considerable wear over the past few years and are in need of attention. New sod to heavily worn areas will be the primary focus.

The Municipality of the District of Digby has partnered with DASA to build a mini size soccer field behind the Municiple Building in Seabrook dedicated to meeting the requirements of our growing U4-U10 players. This field is a new asset in Digby and will require grading, additional soil, and sodding.

The Digby Area Recreation Commission (DARC) has the vision and plan to partner with DASA and others to impliment a strategic cooperatively funded maintenance agreement. This agreement will dramatically improve the facilities and assure the long term viability of esssential community assets.

Come join us in another strong year of soccer in the Digby area.

Why Be a Soccer Coach   By Harold Alexander

Some 10 years ago, my wife Meredith and I enrolled our two oldest children in the first year of soccer for the Digby area. Greg Turner was the coach and I offered to help even though I had never played soccer and didn’t even know the rules of the game. Greg taught me a lot about soccer in those early years. I participated in player clinics as much as I could and took 2 levels of coaching certification. I also took the referee course, mostly to learn more about the game. I’ve coached teams in Digby Minor Soccer for the past 8 years and I’ve enjoyed almost every minute of it.

Getting some much needed exercise for yourself while teaching a group of young people about soccer on a warm summer evening- it rarely gets any better than that. Volunteer coaches are the backbone and the key element in the success of every organization like Digby Minor Soccer. Every player deserves a good coach, someone who is competent, acts in the best interest of every player, respects the game and everyone involved in it, and maintains the highest level of personal conduct.

You could learn the game with your child, get some exercise and may be their next coach or assistant coach. Digby Area Soccer Association is always in need of additional coaches and will pay for any coaching certification required. If you are interested, please contact me [Harold Alexander] and we’ll get you started.
