The Valley District Soccer Association (VDSA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Wayne Evans, retired professional footballer from the U.K., as Director of Player and Coach Development. Evans has over 540 professional games to his credit and a solid reputation as a youth coach in the United Kingdom.
“Our goal was a simple one, to appoint a teacher. In Wayne Evans we have found someone who through their skill, knowledge, experience and passion, will promote and develop the game of soccer at all levels within the Valley District. This is an exciting step forward for soccer in the valley and Wayne is a wonderful addition to our soccer family,” said Keith Fuller, VDSA President.
Evans will create and implement soccer programming focusing on player and coach development for all 16 clubs within the VDSA at the Mini, Tier 2 and Tier 1 levels. He holds a Diploma in Health and Fitness with Sports Psychology and six separate coaching qualifications.
Evans is excited to relocate in a new country. The opportunities to start a new life and contribute to the development of soccer were important factors that lead Evans and his wife, Beverley, to immigrate to Canada.
Evans shares the VDSA vision of player and coach development and enjoyment of the game.
“The overall development of the player is much more important than the result of the game,” said Evans. “We as coaches are there to create a safe environment for learning, to produce sessions that challenge the players but also make it enjoyable and fun. This in turn allows the players to practice and experiment with new techniques, without the fear of making mistakes.”
